Sorry, MBone users tend to assume that people who are going to tune in
know how to use the MBone tools. Obviously, this isn't true for new
users.
Here are step by step instructions:
1. Start up nsdr. It will ask for your name and phone number the first
time you use nsdr.
2. The nsdr program displays announcements of ongoing multicast
sessions. The window will slowly fill with announcements as nsdr
receives them from around the world.
3. If nsdr does not receive any announcements after a while, your
Internet service provider probably does not support multicast. You
probably won't get this fixed in time for today's broadcast so you're
out of luck.
4. You can click on any session announcement to see more information
about it. Look for "UC Berkeley Systems Seminar" and click on it.
5. In the "Program Info" window, you will see a list of applications.
You should only try to run listings that begin with "vic" or "vat".
The vic program displays multicast video. The vat program plays
multicast audio. Click the Run button to the left of the vic and vat
entries to watch/listen to the speaker video/audio.
(The seminar won't start for a while, but video of the room is
currently going out. No audio is being transmitted now.)
6. Look for the "UC Berkeley Systems Seminar - slides" and click on it.
7. Click the Run button for the vic entry. Depending on the speed of
your machine, you may or may not be able to receive the actual slide
stream during the seminar. If your machine is too slow, you can try
muting the other video streams by clicking the mute checkbox.
(Currently, I'm sending out a small blue test screen on the slide
session if anyone is testing their setup. When the real slide stream
starts up, I'll stop the blue screen.)
Hope that helps,
