Welcome back Andrew Swan!
Hi -
I am very pleased to announce that Andrew Swan is returning to graduate
school to finish his PhD. I'm sure many of you remember Andrew - he was
an undergraduate and graduate student at Berkeley. He has worked on a
lot of code we publish and/or use. And, even some code we'd all like to
forget. For those that don't know, Andrew developed rtpmon with Dave
Bacher, the first version of the broadcast manager, and nsdr. He's also
contributed a lot of code to the streaming middleware toolkits (e.g.,
CMT and Mash). I should also mention he worked on the CD driver for
fBSD for ripping CD's - of course, I don't know anything about that...
:)!
Andrew had finished his MS project (the broadcast manager) and was well
on his way to a PhD dissertation involving addressing for layered
multicast (which is why he wrote nsdr) when Steve McCanne approached him
about joining Fast Forward Networks. Andrew was one of the first
employees hired by the company.
After doing the industrial dot-com thing for a couple of years, he's
decided that he wants to finish his PhD dissertation. He returns to
Berkeley starting next week. He'll be sitting in his old office - 517
Soda. I suggest we have a group lunch on monday to celebrate his
return.
Welcome back Andrew! ... now, where is that dissertation proposal you
were supposed to deliver to me 3 years and 4 months ago? :)!!
