Reception Report MM Seminar Webcast -- 1/24/2001
Hi!
I tuned in late at about 1:45pm to the end of the broadcast and everything
went [unusually] well -- near flawless! Good work Matthew, Peter and
Larry!!!
From UCLA and over Calren2, I tuned in using RealPlayer 8 for Linux and
saw no "re-buffering" problems whatsoever... the audio and camera work
were also very good this time. And not to forget the content, the seminar
today was great...
From the player's statistics window, the incoming bandwith was steady at
about 220 Kbit/s... but frequently gaps of 5 secs could be seen. In fact,
these gaps seemed to occur often -- but not always -- with a frequency of
of 60-70 seconds... it would be interesting to diagnose where these gaps
are originating, at UCLA or at UCB -- somewhere these seems to be a bursty
process cutting in? Since the player has enough buffering to withstand
5-second gaps the session went very smooth overall...
Let's hope the rest of the semester webcasts go this smooth!
