Larry,
We've just discovered a bug with RealPlayer 8 Basic build 6.0.9.432. This
particular build does NOT appear to support multicast.
To test just start the player on any stream, View the Statistics window and
click on Streams. The Transport protocol will be UDP.
We have tried this version on 95, 98, 2000 and NT. The symptom is that the
Real Player is configured for multicast playback of live events and in the
statistics window it shows
that it attempts to use mutlicast. However it always times out and goes to
UDP. After reviewing the sniffer logs of the network traffic on the PC it
appears that there is never a request by the application for a multicast
stream (IGMP group join message).
On the same PC we run build .357 or .369 and the player runs multicast. We
then upgrade
it to .450 and the PC no longer gets multicast.
I have reported the problem to RealNetworks. Have you seen or heard of this
before??
