An update on this decision for the list:

In Friday's meeting, most people seemed to be relatively indifferent
about the choice.  (We don't have any diehard Windows programmers with
us right now.)

We didn't take an actual vote, but we did make a decision.  We'll
continue using Visual C++ and I'll try to have configure generate a
Makefile.vc for us automatically.  If this doesn't work or we have
other support or maintenance issues, we'll reconsider our decision.
